We’re documenting instances of black hair discrimination. This story happened a year ago.

Jenesis is 17 and in the 11th grade at North Florida Christian in Tallahassee. She has a big, beautiful afro, she’s been growing since 7th grade. She’d never had a problem until 11th grade when a teacher and some students started asking her about her hair and hair care. A few days later, the principal called her into the office and said either the afro goes or Jenesis has to.
